Pilates Yoga Retreat: Who We Are

Jennifer DeLuca is a former professional dancer who began teaching Pilates in 1996. She was certified by one of the few rightful heirs to the work of Joseph H. Pilates, Romana Kryzanowska. She has taught Pilates classes and workshops throughout NYC and is the founder and owner of the esteemed BodyTonic Pilates Gymnasium (1999) located in Park Slope, Brooklyn where she teaches private clients and future Pilates teachers. Jennifer, BodyTonic, and her work have been featured in Allure, The Washington Post, Glamour, TimeOutNY, Self, Pilates Style, and Body Plus Magazine (Japan.) She is also the author of "Pilates for Wimps-Total Fitness for the Partially Motivated.", (Sterling, 2005) and has been a featured Health and Fitness expert for HGTV. After studying yoga on and off for 20 years, she received her yoga certification in 2011 from OM yoga Center NYC under the wisdom and guidance of Cyndi Lee, and now teaches yoga at BodyTonic.

Jennifer is continuously fascinated and intrigued by the effects of both Pilates and yoga and is thrilled to be able to practice and teach each of them. She enjoys watching the changes that these forms of mind/body fitness can bring and loves to hear a student say, "I can't believe I just did that!"

Jane DoCampo is also a former professional dancer. Since 1999, she has explored many traditions of hatha yoga including: sivananda, viniyoga, iyengar, anusara, ashtanga, and kundalini and enjoys bringing elements from each into her teaching. She holds teaching certifications from both Raji Thron of Yoga Synthesis and Cyndi Lee of OM yoga Center and additionally is a certified prenatal teacher. Teachers who continue to inspire her daily practice are: Cyndi Lee, Raji Thron, Ellen Kaplow, Raghunath, David Regalin, Mila Borrero, Brian Liem, Dharma Mittra and the entire OM yoga Center teacher training staff. Jane teaches yoga privately and at Satsang yoga in Westfield, NJ and at OM yoga Center NYC. She teaches a playful, flowing class focusing on correct alignment and breath awareness.

Jane discovered yoga as the mother of young children. She immediately fell in love with the practice not only because it made her feel so wonderful physically but because it gave her a mental health break and replenished her energy. After studying yoga in depth for so many years, she learned to extend the principles she practiced on her mat to her daily life. She is thrilled to share those benefits with anyone who will listen. It is her firm belief that if the whole world would just do a few forward, side and back bends along with a little twisting and inverting every day, and listen in to the flow of their breath we could all live in complete harmony!

Pilates Yoga Retreat: Why Yoga and Pilates?

Pilates and Yoga share the same principles of breathing, fluidity of movement, control, coordination, precision and centering the mind by focusing on the body. They are different disciplines that work in a complementary way and both are full of variety of exercises that keep things stimulating and interesting. With a morning class in one and an evening class in another, Pilates and Yoga will show you the myriad ways you can move, lengthen, bend, invert, extend, scoop, strengthen and rest...
