I’m just doing what I love.
Just doing what I love.
Actually, it is no small thing to see what can happen when you do what you love. Along that pursuit there are all kinds of pitfalls—disappointment, rejection, exhaustion, chaos. But somehow, if you keep going through all of that, you get to experience magic. For me that love is sharing the legacy of Joseph Pilates’ intelligent and completely life-altering, body of work.
As some of you may know I have been teaching budding Pilates teachers at Rhinebeck Pilates. One weekend per month I take a quiet solo drive upstate and work with some of the most inspiring people at Elaine Ewing’s (former BT teacher!) beautiful studio. I have the honor of working with insightful, courageous people; grown ups who are willing to be raw—lawyers willing to be wrong, teachers willing to visit ignorance—all in the spirit of pursuing something they love. And I get to share my insane passion for Pilates with people who won’t look at me funny.
To make it even more exciting, I invited BodyTonic staff, apprentices and teachers, both old and new to stay with me in a beautiful Victorian mansion. I woke up to find them practicing push-ups stacked on top of each other in the living room. Yes, we are all the same kind of crazy. And as if that wasn’t enough, on Saturday afternoon I got to experience something very special. The magic that permeated the room when the BodyTonic Family walked in and showed their support, respect, empathy and real love of Pilates with the Rhinebeck Teacher Trainees.
I knew it would be fun, but I didn’t count on the real power of doing what you love, loving what you do and sharing it with others that are somewhere along the magical path.
